Learner Bands

Bristol Concert Wind Band run a two year course which helps adults learn a brass, wind or percussion instrument from scratch in a supportive and friendly band environment. Music is provided and we also have an instrument loan scheme. No previous musical experience is assumed but the course may also interest those taking up a second instrument or returning to music after a long break.

Derek Brown conducts a previous years course for their first public performance.

Many of those now playing in Bristol Concert Wind Band first came to wind band music via our learner bands so if you have always thought you'd like to learn an instrument but never got round to it why not join us? Any brass or reed instrument can play in a wind band and they also include percussion instruments like xylophone, glockenspiel, drum kit as well as string bass. The band owns a selection of instruments which can be borrowed for the duration of the course and you can even try a few before you chose which one to learn.
